Full Review:
I'll start off by saying this: buy this game. You don't need to waste time reading this review, just go buy Grand Theft Auto 3; now. Trust me, you definitely won't be disappointed. If you're still here and didn't heed my advice, then know that the rest of this review will simply be praise for this incredible game.
Grand Theft Auto 3 puts you in control of an ex-con who was shot by his girlfriend after a bank robbery. Basically in this game, you get your money however you can... You do favors for the mob, help out crooked cops, and take out heads of rival gangs. That's just if you choose to do the missions to move on in the game.
In my experience, it can be just as much fun to just steal people's cars and run over pedestrians. (This can even earn you money!) If you so choose, you can steal a taxi and drive people around the city, earning money from each fare. Of course, you can always just pick up take some old guy's car and pick up a whore or two.
Liberty City is huge. If you have a way to get there you can go anywhere you want. Area's of the city are divided up into different gangs. For instance, the Leone family's turf is in the industrial sector of town. The Triads on the other hand, hang out in China Town. If you happen to be driving a Leone car in Triad turf, they're prone to shoot at you. If you do more work for the Leone family, they'll trust you more and give you more important and higher paying missions. However, if you spread out your work among gangs, they won't trust you that much and your missions will be less important.
This game is all about details. Whether you're choosing the radio station in your car (complete with commercials and annoying radio personalities) or sniping someone from the top of a building, everything is extremely detailed. When its daytime, you'll find businessmen on the way to and from work, at night hookers roam the streets, and you better not ride the subway without a gun! The sounds in this game are superb, from a simple gunshot, to the squish of running over a pedestrian, everything is immaculate. The graphics, while top notch, are sometimes a little choppy when there's a lot of action on the screen, but this is expected. This game will last you a long time, as the story can take you around 50 hours easily, and then you have countless hours of fun just wreaking havoc. The only problem I have with this game is that you can only play it on PS2 or a PC.
If you didn't go out and buy this game when I told you to in the beginning, I'm sure I've got you interested now. Keep in mind, that this game is rated M for a reason. The violence is high and the humor is dark. But if you can handle it, strap in your seatbelt and get in for the ride. This isn't your grandma's videogame!
