"The Day After Tomorrow" Review:

          The Day After Tomorrow is about Professor Jack Hall, a climatologist who predicts that the melting of the polar ice caps will cause the North Atlantic Current to stop, creating a new ice age in the Northern Hemisphere. His warnings go unheard until a giant storm strikes, destroying major cities all around the world. Hall predicts that the ice age will happen in the next week, and recommends that the southern part of the country (the states that still have hope for survival) be evacuated to Mexico. His son is in New York City on a school trip, and Hall travels north, against the flow of everyone else, to save his life.

          This is what I learned from The Day After Tomorrow: in the event of a global natural disaster, The Weather Channel would become our main source of all news; heroes come in threes; always carry an ice ax, they save lives; reporters are always the first to die; and most importantly, timing is everything. What should I do with this new knowledge? Probably forget it as fast as I can because learning about science from this movie is like learning about the human anatomy from Anna Nicole Smith. Don稚 be stupid!

          Without a doubt this is the dumbest movie I have ever seen. You can稚 stop an ice age by closing a door, and after outrunning a tsunami, ice, wolves, and temperatures cold enough to freeze you where you stand, I知 pretty sure Sam Hall could have walked on water. Tomorrow is irreverent and moronic, and every second I watched made me feel like I was getting dumber. (I couldn稚 get the thought out of my head of how many hairdryers it would take to melt fifty feet of snow.)

          That being said, I enjoyed The Day After Tomorrow. As stupid as it is, and it痴 stupid, this movie is just as fun to watch. The special effects are truly amazing; with each new disaster film the improvements in technology are so clear. This movie features some amazing title waves and storm sequences. The Los Angeles destruction scene was unbelievable in that it looked so realistic.

          Still, The Day After Tomorrow is more than just cool special effects. The characters aren稚 exactly compelling, but good acting makes us feel for them. Jack, Sam, and Lucy Hall are some of the least believable characters I致e ever seen, they池e each so loving and selfless but for some reason the parents live separately. But like I said, good acting makes up for bad characters like nice special effects make up for a completely unbelievable story.
