The Banger Sisters

Movie Review: The Banger Sisters

MPAA Rating: R

Stars (Out of 10): 7

One Word Summary: Lovable

Full Review:

Vinny and Suzette were groupies, 20 years ago. Now Vinny is Lavinia, the wife of a prominent attorney from Arizona who has hopes of getting into politics. She's turned into a prissy miss perfect, who raises here children with the highest standards. They are living the American dream until Suzette comes along and reminds Vinny how fun life can be!

On one hand, Banger Sisters seems like another time-of-our-lives story about 2 women who's relationship had fallen apart only to be brought back together 20 years later. On the other hand, its got a great cast that delivers time-of-their-lives performances.

The actor who stuck out the most to me was Geoffrey Rush, who was absolutely hilarious. He plays a confused and complicated film writer who Suzette picks up on her way to Phoenix. Susan Sarandon and Goldie Hawn both shined more than they have in quite a few movies. Erika Christensen plays another troubled teen. It seems that she's found a comfortable spot in these roles, and if every performance is as good as this one, then hooray for type casting!

Unfortunately, the plot takes too long to develop and then stutters as the movie goes on. Its odd-couple dynamics lead to humor, but some jokes miss, and others aren't funny. I give Geoffrey Rush a lot of credit, I really think that he carried the movie through the first half hour, and unfortunately didn't have as much screen time in the last hour.

The movie gets better as it gets farther into the story. Its ending solves the story's conflicts without giving us sentimental trash! The story topples the adversity of a stupid, clich馘 plot by developing great, lovable characters with their own quirks. When you think the story is slowing down, its speeds back up.

In conclusion, The Banger Sistersis a silly comedy with lovable characters and great acting. Its definitely worth seeing. I wouldn't classify it as a "chick-flick", but that demographic will probably enjoy it the most.

Conclusion:
Joe Critic gives this movie a THUMB UP!
