Full Review:
Serving Sara is about a process server who serves divorce papers to a woman named Sara. Her and her husband have made a fortune through ranches they own in Texas, but when Joe informs her that since she was served the divorce papers, she will leave with nothing. So she offers him a proposition. She'll give him one million dollars if he will help her. All he has to do is forget that he served her, and go to Texas and serve her husband. Sounds simple, its not!
Serving Sara was not a "great" movie. It has not, and will not get the approval of critics and it hasn't done too well in theatres so far. But for any critic to honestly say that Serving Sara didn't make them laugh, would be a lie. It certainly wasn't high level comedy, but a laugh is a laugh, and a laugh that makes your stomach hurt is even better! This isn't the best movie you'll see in theatres this summer, but it'll make you laugh.
I absolutely love Matthew Perry! I think he's one of the funniest men in Hollywood. I'm dying for Friends to end so I can see him in more movies. I only wish he would star in a movie that would at least earn him critic's approval if not their respect. Elizabeth Hurley is a beautiful model, and a developing actress. She'll never win an Oscar, but she's found a comfortable spot in stupid comedies like Serving Sara. And it goes without saying that Cedric the Entertainer was hilarious!
There's is a big dark line between a good comedy, and a funny comedy. A good comedy has a realistic storyline, good character development, jokes for different levels of intellect and maturity (jokes for adults and for kids) and most important of all they must be more than just a comedy, they have to be more dimensional, they have to have suspense, drama, and sometimes action. A funny comedy's only responsibility is to make you laugh! Serving Sara is a funny comedy that isn't deep and isn't smart. But its funny, so I forgive it!
To wrap it up, if your into screwball comedy, or just don't feel like having to think at all during a movie, you might think about giving Serving Sara a shot. If the thought of Matthew Perry sticking his whole arm inside a cow has no appeal to you, maybe there's another movie you'd rather see!
