Stuck On You Review:

In any other world, a comedy that features conjoined twins as its central characters might be deemed offensive, exploitive, and mean-spirited. In the world of the Farrelly Brothers, such a film comes off as hilarious and heartwarming, laughing with its disabled characters rather than at them.

Stuck On You stars Matt Damon and Greg Kinnear as Bob & Walt Tenor, brothers joined at the hip who are as different as night and day. Walt is a womanizing playboy with a varied repertoire of pick-up lines; Bob is shy, preferring to date from 3,000 miles away via e-mail. Walt is an aspiring actor with dreams of making it big in Hollywood; Bob suffers from severe stage fright and is content slinging burgers at the Quickee Burger he owns. These differences result in some of the funniest moments in the film as each pursues, and the other must adapt to, their varied interests. The plot eventually takes the brothers from Martha's Vineyard to L.A. where Walt pursues an acting career and Bob pursues his Internet girlfriend who has no clue just how attached he is to his brother. As their lives begin to get more complicated, the brothers find themselves faced with an agonizing decision – surgical separation that could prove risky for Walt.

Damon & Kinnear are terrific, showcasing an easy rapport between them that can only come from hours spent literally attached to one another. Elevating Walt and Bob beyond mere freakish oddities, Damon & Kinnear get to the heart of their characters and the relationship that binds them beyond the obvious physical attachment. They're human beings with hopes, fears, and dreams like everyone else and the ways in which they successfully overcome their deformity are inspirational (if not entirely practical or, even, believable).

Damon & Kinnear are the stars of the show, but the film also features nice supporting performances from Eva Mendes (who begs the question 'J-Lo who?!') as a dim-bulb actress who befriends the pair, Wen Yann Shih as Bob's long-distance love, and Cher in a self-deprecating role as a much…ahem….meaner version of herself.

Lest you come to think that the Farrelly Brothers have abandoned lowbrow humor in favor of syrupy sentimentality, rest assured that Stuck On You carries on the tradition of sick humor that frequently threatens to cross the lines of good taste. I have to say that this is a somewhat kinder, gentler Bobby & Peter and the film drifts pretty heavily into hanky territory near the end. However, the Farrelly's have always had a gift for letting a serious moment lie there for a beat or two before breaking the spell with a really good joke.

Stuck On you is presented on DVD in 2.35:1anamorphic widescreen and 5.1 Dolby Digital sound. Bonus features include: Commentary by the Brothers Farrelly that is sometimes funny, sometimes enlightening, and often more boring than one might expect; a handful of deleted and extended scenes, some funnier than others; three behind the scenes featurettes. It's Funny – The Farrelly Formula features interviews with stars from other Farrelly films in which they basically wax poetic over the Farrelly's warped sense of humor. Stuck Together – Bringing Stuck On You To The Screen is a brief 10-minute look at the making of the film. Finally, Making It Stick – The Make-up Effects is a brief but fascinating look at the Damon/Kinnear merger; a blooper reel that showcases Kinnear's talent for celebrity impersonations; and the original trailer.

Stuck On You is a sweetly irreverent film that connects the heart to the funny bone in celebration of those the rest of the world deems handicapped.
